Orihuela (katal.: "Oriola") ist eine spanische Kleinstadt in der Provinz Alicante. Sie hat auf einer Ausdehnung von 365,4 km² eine Bevölkerung von 86.164 Einwohnern. Der Fluss Segura fließt durch diese alte Bischofsstadt. Orihuelas Gebiet reicht von den Bergen im Hinterland bis zur Küste die 20 km vom Zentrum entfernt liegt. Die Küstenregion ist in den letzten Jahren auf 30.000 Wohneinheiten angewachsen und ist in ihrer Aussdehnung inzwischen größer als die alte Bischofsstadt. Die Küstenbebauung trägt den Namen Orihuela Costa oder auch Playas de Orihuela . Orihuela gehört zum spanischen Sprachgebiet.

Der spanische Dichter Miguel Hernández, nach dem auch eine Universität ernannt wurde, wurde in dieser Stadt geboren. Auch das Festival Moros y Cristianos macht Orihuela bedeutsam. Orihuela ist die Hauptstadt der Region der Vega Baja del Segura (natürliche Region) war Hauptstadt der gleichnamigen Provinz und des gleichnamigen Königreiches. Am 11. September 1437 wurde Orihuela in der Provinz Alicante erstmals Stadt genannt. Enseña de Orihuela, das Oriol, hat die Privilegien, von denen nie sie neigt, nur vor Gott und dem König.

Orihuela (in Spanish, or Oriola in Valencian) is a city and municipality located in the province of Alicante, Spain. The city of Orihuela had a population of 32,472 inhabitants in the beginning of 2006. The municipality has a total area of 367.19 km², and stretches all the way down to the Mediterranean coast, west of Torrevieja, and had a total population of 77,949 inhabitants in the beginning of 2006. This includes not only the city of Orihuela, but also the coastal tourist centre (urbanizacion turistica) of Dehesa de Campoamor with 21,659 inhabitants (2006) and a few other villages.

The river Segura flows through the city. The city was settled by Romans who called it Orcelis and subsequently Aurariola. The municipality had a total population of 77,979 inhabitants in the beginning of 2006, of which the city of Orihuela only accommodated 32,472 of them. Another major locality within the municipality is the tourist centre of Dehesa de Campoamor, located on the coast, more than 20 km from Orihuela. It had 21,659 inhabitants in the beginning of 2006.

The metropolitan area of Orihuela includes the eleven municipalites of Orihuela, Benejúzar, Benferri, Beniel, Bigastro, Callosa de Segura, Cox, Jacarilla, Rafal, Redován and Santomera. It had a total population of 151,358 inhabitants in the beginning of 2006, and a total area of 510,3 km².

The metropolitan area of Orihuela is also a part of the larger Murcia-Orihuela conurbation, with a total population of 727,741 inhabitants (2006) and an area of 1,743.5 km².[1]

Flamenca Beach is a suburb of the locality of Playa Flamenca, located in Orihuela Costa which is approximately 5 minutes from beautiful beaches on the Costa Blanca, Spain such as La Zenia beach, Punta Prima beach, Playa Flamenca beach, Cala La Mosca beach and Cabo Roig beach. Flamenca Beach contains a commercial centre also named Flamenca Beach which has several Banks, Supermarkets, Bars with entertainment and various Restaurants. It is 4km from the bustling town of Torrevieja, 50 km from the provincial capital Alicante, 30km from Murcia and 60km from the southern area of La Manga.
